English Now! C

English Now! C is comprised of three units (Units 4, 5, and 6) and is an English as a Second Language (ESL)/English Language Development (ELD) Program. It is designed for Grades 3-8 English Learners of language proficiency levels 3 and 4, and Grades 9-12 ELs at level 3.

The goal of English Now! C is to increase the student’s language proficiency evidenced by the English Now! C Unit Posttest.

English Now! C Unit 4 covers science concepts about weather, including evaporation, condensation, the seasons, and temperature. Grammatical forms are explicitly taught and are determined by two language functions: description and cause and effect. Vocabulary includes collocations, social lexical phrases, and words with multiple meanings.

English Now! C Unit 5 covers health and nutrition concepts, including a balanced diet, the food pyramid, and vitamins and minerals. Grammatical forms include plural morphemes, comparative forms, and simple verb tenses. The functions in which these forms are introduced include “how to” directions, dialogues, and concept definitions.

English Now! C Unit 6 covers health science concepts about physical fitness and exercise. The students learn about flexibility, strength, and endurance. Vocabulary includes multiword units such as collocations and idioms. Grammatical forms focus on noticing, then comparing and contrasting verb tenses and comparative forms.
